Graduates earn 8,427 degrees, certificates from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University


About 26.3 percent of the 8,427 degrees and certificates handed out by the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2016-17 were to students in Engineering programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Blacksburg conferred 1568 bachelor's degrees and 462 master's degrees in Engineering programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Data shows the school gave out 416 bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, followed by 334 bachelor's degrees in Management Science and 276 bachelor's degrees in Foods, Nutrition, and Wellness Studies, General.

The university enrolled 33,170 students for 2016-17, including 25,791 in undergraduate programs and 7,379 in graduate programs.
