PRINCE WILLIAM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Local auto repair shop pays for employees’ health care

Prince William Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 3.

Woodbridge, VA — December 1, 2018 — Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire is covering the cost of its employees’ individual healthcare.

The business began paying 100 percent of the basic health care plan on December 1.

“Small businesses are finding it more difficult to attract and retain qualified employees. The rising cost of health care is contributing to the issue,” Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire Owner Scott Whitling said. “We thought, ‘What could we do to be more marketable in our industry and do something that would benefit the employees?’”

Through this offering, one employee is now able to afford health care for his two children.

Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire also provided additional Paid Time Off (PTO) days for employees who are sick or need to take care of their family.

Established in Woodbridge in 1979, Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire is a full-service automotive repair shop that does everything from oil changes to engine repair. It carries various tire brands and is an authorized Goodyear Tire dealer.
