Wythe County ranked 73rd in state for resident earnings in 2017


Wythe County ranked 73rd among counties in Virginia by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Wythe County residents was an inflation-adjusted $22,606 per year. Wythe County had 11,892 households in 2017, with a population of 29,048.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Arlington County. Arlington County's median income was $64,686 per year after adjusting for inflation – $42,080 more than Wythe County. It had 102,310 households in 2017 and a population of 229,534.

Sussex County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Virginia, with a median income of only $16,191 per year. That was $6,415 less than the median income in Wythe County at the time. Sussex County had 3,388 households in 2017 and a population of 11,595.
